Dark-eyed juncos (Junco hyemalis) are medium-sized sparrows that visit the New York area throughout the year. They tend to forage on the ground, but can often be seen on bird feeders. I have seen them all over the New York area. They love seeds and can often be heard talking to their fellow juncos.
